Deluge Systems

A deluge sprinkler system is similar to a pre-action system in which the water is not occupying the piping system and is held back by a valve. A deluge sprinkler system is connected to the water supply through a deluge valve that is opened by the operation of a smoke or heat detection system. The deluge valve prevents water from flowing through the piping system until prompted. The difference between the deluge system and the pre-action system is that the sprinkler heads are open and the piping system is not pressurized with air or nitrogen.

When a fire has been identified and the detection system is activated, water is dispersed throughout all sprinkler heads in the system. Deluge sprinkler systems are designed and used for special hazard area where there is a high risk of rapid fire spread. Deluge systems provide a simultaneous ejection of water over the entire hazardous area.
